The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) has been commissioned by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to lead and coordinate research towards developing a credible institutional mechanism for skills planning. This mechanism will better promote the national priority of a skilled and capable workforce to achieve an inclusive growth path. A consortium comprising the HSRC, the Development Policy Research Unit (UCT) and the Centre for Researching Education and Labour (Wits) has been established to drive the research agenda known as the Labour Market Intelligence Partnership (LMIP).

This policy roundtable provides a critical forum for stakeholders in government, experts in the research community and the public sector to engage, conceptualise and articulate the contours of a credible institutional skills planning mechanism in South Africa. The key aims of this roundtable are to interrogate the various conceptions of this mechanism and move towards a position of consensus on its shape, nature and function.  We welcome your participation and attendance at this event and would appreciate your response by 28 February 2014.
