Ms Sybil Chabane on indicators for skills planning for South Africa
The event interrogated a proposed set of indicators for skills planning and highlighted structured and systemic approaches for data collection over the long term. A key issue stressed in the discussion was the need to move away from debate on conceptualisation of indicators, which has been ongoing for the past decade. The time is now to move towards implementation. The starting point for indicator selection should be to use the best available data – that which is fit-for-purpose, currently accessible and of sound quality.
