The workshop initiated a process to develop a core set of labour market indicators with the DHET and other stakeholders. It was recognised that the development of the indicator framework should take account of current indicators being used by the DHET and related government departments. Selecting indicators is an expression of values that need to take into account existing policy – itself an expression of what is valued by government in addressing challenges in the labour market.
The workshop will be shaped to include an international perspective by Prof Simon McGrath from the University of Nottingham, a presentation on labour markets indicators currently employed in South Africa and will provide opportunities for deliberation.
